This is one of the key steps to obtaining business credit. Your business phone number must be listed with 411 directory assistance to acheive the maximum business credit results. Although this is a key requirement, business credit may still be acheived without being listed.

Landline business phone numbers from embarq or AT&T produce the best results. Not only do they list your number with 411, but they also report on your business credit file as a trade line to D&B. Embarq allows you to set up a business phone line with just a tax id, and does not charge a deposit. If for some reason you are unable to set up a landline phone, cell phones may do the trick as well. You will just have to list them yourself with directory assistance if they are not business cell phones.

If neither of those are an option for you, there are other, cheaper alternatives that can acheive the same results. Laservoicemail.com, and k7.net. Both of these are free online voicemail services. These numbers can be used as your business number. I would recommend k-7.net. We love k-7 because the number they give you, although it will an out of state number, Doubles as a fax number. Something that will definitely come in handy when setting up a business. If you decide to go this route, you will have to take the steps to self-register your business with 411.  This can be done by clicking HERE and registering with with all of the online directories such as list yourself and superpages. It may take a couple of weeks before your business number makes its way to directory assistance, but it comes with a pretty good price tag. Free!
